Knutson Carpentry completed a period passageway in this Arts and Crafts style home.
First, by building these original wrap-around pedestal bases with recessed panels. Then, adding caging which matched what exists in the home. And completing the job by customizing a beautiful salvaged header with keystone and tassels.

Knutson Carpentry installed two sets of shelves to better utilize the wasted space on either side of this customer's fireplace. Knutson Carpentry created these attractive shelves to fit perfectly in this space. The shelves were finished with a decorative edge and matching stain. The brass pins that support these shelves are hidden in customized recesses underneath, giving a refined appearance.

Interior finish carpentry demands patience and an attention to details. These pictures demonstrate the kind of workmanship Knutson Carpentry strives to provide to each of its customers.

Knutson Carpentry is especially proud to have had the chance to return style and charm to some wonderful turn of the century homes in the Twin Cities. In the first set of photographs a plain passageway was raised to accommodate a set of vintage pedestals and pillars which were located at an architectural salvage yard. The passageway was then trimmed to match the rest of the home.

This built-in sideboard sat between two doorways. Unfortunately, the doors were much too low. Knutson Carpentry changed the height of the passageways, then reproduced the trim style and added a decorative panel above the sideboard. Much of this house had been re-trimmed in the 1970's. Knutson Carpentry reproduced and re-installed vintage trim throughout the home.

This staircase was unattractive and constrictive before Knutson Carpentry was given the pleasure of restoring it. After the wall was removed, the lower staircase railing and trim were carefully replicated using the upper run as a model and three broken spindles were replaced in the upper run as well.

This customer had some very interesting ideas as to what to do with a modern home. Knutson Carpentry did its best to create their unique design. The columns you see hide supports for the upstairs where an awkward hall closet and low header once were. A staircase wall was also removed and replaced with a matching railing. The result was an open and original living space.

This is the favorite kitchen of Knutson Carpentry. These beautiful custom cabinets with lots of extras were a treat to install. The counters were finished with 12 inch onyx tiles and the custom island was topped with a solid 4 foot square granite top with enough overhang to accommodate use with bar stools. Knutson Carpentry customized much of this work on site and the result was a beautifully utilitarian kitchen.

These homeowners needed a little more space in their one-story St. Paul home. When it was finished it provided them with a master bedroom, a walk-in closet, a sitting area and a bathroom. A storage closet and bookshelf as well as a towel shelf were all built into the unusable space below 4 feet. The customers were delighted and almost doubled their square footage when Knutson Carpentry was finished.
